Abstract:
Successful relating in adulthood comes from the mother’s ability to connect with her baby from one mind to another as associated to empathic identification with baby’s state of mind. The psychological well-being of a mother during the pregnancy and after the birth can have a profound effect on the care she provides for the baby; it affects her ability to bond and attach to the baby. Improving maternal depression does not, in itself, necessarily improve mother–infant interaction. Different interventions that enhance creation of mother-infant relationship can be therefore considered as crucial for the benefits of parent-infant dyad when mother is depressed. Midwives could use infant massage and Newborn-behavioural Observation (NBO) as a routine interventions.Live Presentation Schedule
